Ottawa’s WCMY had expected to collect about 10,000 pounds of food for their “Freezin for a Reason” food drive on Friday, December 18, 2009. The 26 foot truck was weighed before and after the drive. To their amazement, the truck was filled from front-to-back and top-to-bottom – resulting in a donation of over 23,000 pounds of non-perishable food items. Also, over $6,000 in monetary donations was collected that the station didn’t even ask for! People were so compelled to give that they were driving up and handing WCMY staff money through their car windows.
